Insurance Surveys

Insurance Survey:

  • An insurance survey is performed for the boat’s current owner, most often at the request of an insurance company for policy renewal or by a finance company if refinancing.
  • An insurance survey is used by insurers to determine whether or not the boat is a good insurable risk.
  • An insurance survey is used by boat owners and insurers to provide evidence to support a damage claim.
  • NOTE: While insurance companies may provide a list of known, recommended or pre-approved marine surveyors, Insurance companies cannot require customer to use any specific marine surveyor.
  • The survey report will be put together using US Coast Guard, American Boat and Yacht Council, National Fire Protection Association and Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors standards.
